Amaris stood in that dream-like state, watching with abject horror as the eyes of many visitors glowed with a tint of blue. The hunger, the voice had described, as the memories of fallen bodies and withered souls perished beneath the earth and sea. And just as quickly as the dream had come, it ended just the same.
Amaris had woken that morning to his own etchings of hunger; a quiet pull that grew from a seed within his stomach and grumbled just as loudly.
Aelia? He called out against his crumbled form of tangled limbs as he hoisted himself to a stand. Her position beside him had grown cold in his slumber, evidence alone that she had gone off to search.
Hunger,he mumbled quietly to himself, drawing back the exhaustion from his weary gaze through a series of fluttering blinks. They needed to eat just as much as they needed to drink. Perhaps, he would find something for them both.
And so he took to the south-east, careful not to stray too far from his twin, where his scent could not be reached; but he headed toward the loping hills with a dollop of hope intertwined like a light behind his gaze.
The voice spoke of hunger, and whether it was a warning or a clue, the message did not matter. For now, it was a reminder to consume, and consume Amaris would.
The scent of prey was scarce along his senses, but it did not stop the Moon from trying. His paws would push along the faded grass of what had once been a horizon of green and vibrant yellow. His body would weave between the boulders that jutted out from the midst of the forsaken earth, following an intuitive trail that he felt so keenly within his bones. And for what had felt like hours, he would attempt a hunt, searching endlessly for something and anything that would quench that growing hunger.
