The two twins had been traveling with one another since the encounter with... Whatever it was. Albeit the air between them still ached with an awkward tension. There had been small interactions between the two since the incident with their Bubushka , but nothing extravagant. It was clear that Aelia still cared for Amaris even through her unresolved feelings of being left out. It was her instinct to throw herself in front of the Moon when things seemed dire. It didn't matter if they'd been parted from one another for centuries; the Sun would always chase the Moon.
And through the fire and flames of this new, unraveling curse, and their homeland evolving into a toxic wasteland — all of it seemed so insignificant. In the end, she missed her twin, and with all this madness spreading, who knew how much longer the two of them might have with one another. She believed that there was a cure and that the Five guided them in the quest for runes, but hope was starting to dwindle. Dehydration was setting in; it was getting to push herself up each morning and resist the rushing of the noxious river nearby. Even with them treading further and further away, the rush remained in her ears.
Though today, they were lucky — at least, due to the rain. It provided a fresh swell of water in small puddles away from the river. Of course, there was no way to know if the ground was seeped with malignant intent, but the Daystar couldn't fathom a care. If it looked slightly clearer than the water from the river, she was slurping it up. Dirt covered her maw, patches of burnt skin tattered across her lower legs from being too close to the river and lake, bags underneath her eyes, and her usual lunar eyes bloodshot. She looked like a mess, and felt like it too.
Amaris, drink.Even if she wanted to resist, at this point, she couldn't, and urged her twin to indulge as well. It had to be better than the river, and if they didn't get some water soon, she feared they might both perish.
I think the whole river is poisoned, we're going to have to find another water source or...The reality of it all was setting in. It wouldn't be much longer before wolves started dying. They needed to find something soon, otherwise, they were going to have to leave the Respite. And even worse, somehow convince their mothers as well.
Amaris
